The IR(A) Modular Flight Course aims to train pilots to the level of proficiency required to operate aircraft under IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) and IMC (Instrument Meteorological Conditions) - i.e. to fly safely at night or in low visibility conditions relying solely on instruments.
It is essential for those wishing to become professional pilots, as it is a recruitment requirement for an airline.
What does the training provide?
- 150 hours of theoretical training (attendance and distance learning) (ATPL theoretical exam can be replaced by a certificate)
- 45 hours of practical training (5 hours in single-engine aeroplanes and 40 hours in simulators), or
*55 hours of practical training (15 hours in multi-engine aeroplanes and 40 hours in a simulator)
Application criteria:
- PPL(A) or higher with a valid class rating
- a Class II or higher medical certificate
- hold a night rating
- minimum 50 hours of PIC flight time
- a minimum level B2 state recognised complex language proficiency examination or a valid ICAO English language proficiency examination at level 4 or higher

Training is conducted on Cessna 172, Tecnam P2006T aircraft, Redbird and Entrol simulators.
Training does not include fees and associated hours for official theory and proficiency examinations and examiners.
